The Delay Did Not Change the Assignment

The Orlando Pride beat the Houston Dash 3-1 after a weather delay of more than 90 minutes, then played like the storm had only postponed the inevitable. Orlando scored three times before Houston could turn the game into a real argument.

The Pride had already established the shape of the night before the scoreboard finished explaining it. Barbra Banda created the first danger, Orlando forced the game toward Houston’s box, and the hosts carried a two-goal lead into halftime.

Banda Put a Record on the Board

The opening goal arrived in the 14th minute as a cross created by Banda was deflected into the net for an own goal. Thirty minutes later, Summer Yates drew a penalty and Banda converted it, scoring the first NWSL penalty of her career and her 14th goal of the season.

That goal set a new Orlando single-season record. It also made Houston’s defensive task less forgiving: the Dash were no longer protecting a narrow game, they were trying to reverse a night in which Banda kept pulling the back line toward uncomfortable decisions.

McCutcheon Added the Second Punch

Haley McCutcheon made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute after combining with Banda and finishing a left-footed volley. The goal was McCutcheon’s fourth of the season, a new career high, and it gave Orlando the two-goal cushion that survived Houston’s late response.

Kiki Van Zanten scored for Houston in the 72nd minute, her fifth of the season, after Khyah Harper supplied the assist. The Dash did not quit, but the comeback window was narrow because Orlando had used the first hour to make every remaining goal more expensive.

It was also Orlando’s fifth straight home win over Houston, a streak that made the result feel less like a one-night escape and more like a recurring problem the Dash still have to solve in this building.

The Desk Has Ruled

Orlando’s Record Goal Margin is plus two: a three-goal performance that absorbed a long delay and still left Houston needing two answers after halftime. The Pride did not simply wait out the weather. It returned to the field with the same standards and made the delay someone else’s problem.

Houston brought the road trip to the finish. Orlando brought the record book.
