Jonah Tong struck out seven over five innings, but the line came with an important blemish: all four of his runs arrived in Miami’s second-inning burst. That could have become the game’s identity. Instead, Tong finished the inning, handed the lead back to the lineup, and let four relievers complete a six-hit defensive finish.

Miami’s two errors also mattered. The Mets did not need gifts to win, but the Marlins supplied two extra reasons for a 16-hit offense to keep asking questions. Once New York moved ahead 7-4, the game became less about comeback drama and more about whether Miami could stop the bleeding.
