Dallas Arrived With a Full Lineup

The Wings did not need a miracle or a single-player rescue mission. They needed one more win to make the playoffs, and they treated Portland like an appointment that could not be rescheduled.

Dallas led 27-18 after one quarter, added 23 points in the second, and carried a 50-37 advantage into halftime. The lead reached 26, and Portland never led. The young contender trying to skip the waiting room walked straight past the receptionist.

Bueckers Set the Table

Paige Bueckers finished with 22 points and 11 assists, while Jessica Shepard added 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Arike Ogunbowale scored 17, Awak Kuier supplied 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks, and Alanna Smith added 10.

All five Dallas starters scored in double figures. That is the real playoff announcement. Bueckers can be the headline, but a postseason team needs a second paragraph, a third paragraph, and somebody to make the opposing defense regret reading the whole thing.

Dallas made 11 threes and shot 55.1% from the field. Its 26 assists showed how often the Wings found the next pass instead of asking one young star to solve every possession. Portland made only 37.5% of its shots.

Portland Won the Last Argument

The Fire did not disappear. Bridget Carleton and Karlie Samuelson each scored 14, Emily Engstler had 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and Portland won the fourth quarter 26-25.

That closing edge is why the Fourth-Quarter Competence grade is D. Dallas had already done the most important work, but a team with playoff ambitions should not treat the final period as a courtesy lap. Portland’s expansion-year swagger finally found enough space to make the ending respectable.

It just could not make the game competitive again. Dallas’ largest lead was 26, and the Fire never got closer than the basic math allowed by a finished blowout.

The Desk Has Ruled

Desk ruling: Dallas clinched because its identity is already wider than one star. Bueckers created 22 points and 11 assists, but the five-starter balance made the playoff spot feel earned rather than rented.

The Wings set a franchise record with their 23rd regular-season win and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2023. Portland won the last quarter. Dallas won the part of the season that decides where the next games matter.
