Texas took a 2-0 lead through two innings. Joc Pederson homered in the first, and Evan Carter drove in Ezequiel Duran in the second.

Chicago did not answer with one immediate explosion. Miguel Vargas doubled home Sam Antonacci in the third, then Antonacci tied the game with a single in the fifth.

The Adults in the Room

Vargas finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Antonacci had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Benintendi’s only hit carried three runs home.

That distribution mattered. Chicago did not rely on a home-run barrage. It kept placing runners in useful positions and received the extra-base hit when the game required one.

The White Sox collected 13 hits and did not commit an error. On a night that began with Texas power, Chicago won by becoming the cleaner and more persistent offense.

That steadiness gave the bullpen a manageable task. Texas never produced another run after Burger’s seventh-inning homer, and Chicago reached the ninth with a two-run cushion before the offense expanded it. The White Sox did not spend the late innings begging one fragile lead to survive.

The ninth inning turned a competitive loss into a seven-run result. Vargas doubled home Chase Meidroth, Luisangel Acuña drove in two with a single, Randal Grichuk tripled home Acuña and Braden Montgomery doubled home Grichuk.

Five runs arrived before Texas could escape the inning. A 5-3 deficit is a closing assignment. A 10-3 deficit is an invitation to begin tomorrow’s meeting early.
